"Walls cannot embrace a library.  It is more than a place, more than books and films and records, more even than the people who make it work.  Basically a library is a gathering of ideas, of information-- put in order and shared.  And, the sharing is the whole point of a library."

Compton's Encyclopedia, 1986

School Library Media Mission:bee
"The school library media program is designed to support the educational goals and objectives of the school system. The program provides an organized collection of print materials, non-print materials and technology as well as services and integrated instruction necessary for student use and enjoyment. The materials and activities are presented with an awareness of the Voluntary State Curriculum and build a foundation for lifelong learning and information literacy."

Student Access and Use:
Grades kindergarten through fifth receive media instruction on a weekly rotating basis. The students visit the media center during "specials" for library skills, computer skills and book exchange at least once every week for a fifty minute period.

checkoutBook Checkout Policy:
The procedure for checking out books is as follows:

The students may check out a book in the morning or during their designated media specials time.

After checking out a book, the students may keep the book for one week. If the student needs more time they may request that the book be renewed.

Books may be returned to the return cart in the morning or when the students come to media for specials.

Each time the students come to specials they are informed of their book status. Overdue notices are generated at least once per term.

The students are responsible for the book they have checked out until it is checked back in to circulation.
